Unit summary

Earlier today was the final assessment piece, the quiz worth 20%. It only consisted 10 short answer questions which was good in my opinion because we weren't asked to regurgitate back too much information. I'm sure most people would not have studied very hard for this as all the material covered in lectures were straight forward and easy to follow, maybe it was the way it was delivered.

Throughout this unit we were interacting actively with Networked Media - the internet. Everything learned and all the assignments required us to use the internet. I feel that most of the things covered in the unit I will use in future if not for my studies ahead or in the work force, I would use it personally. I would have liked to cover a bit more on HTML however this unit is not a programming or website design class - I think I will revise my HTML, XML, CSS knowledge and make my own hobby blogging website soon.

I liked the assessment pieces, especially Project B - I hate a lot of fun researching and completing it. The weblog I feel is a very good assessment for participation. However I feel that it is worth a little too much, maybe change it to 20% next year, and then add the other 10% to projects A and B making them worth 30% each. I really thought that giving the students options for two projects was very good and must have worked well. It is not like how its an essay question where there are a choice of questions, the options were all completely different and thats what brought a diverse way of thinking over the students.

This will be my last blog on this website, unless another unit for uni asks me to create another one. However this will not be the end of my blogging, I am going to use and exploit the internet video format and start V-logging on YouTube (of course!). I really enjoyed this unit, all the lecturers/tutors had their own approach to the lectures and ways of teaching so I think that would not have bored the students.

Once I start V-logging I'll post up the link to my YouTube channel on this weblog for my loyal followers (if I have any lol). But for now its ciao...

Project B complete

Earlier this evening I finished editing my Project B assignment for Networked Media Production. I don't remember if I mentioned this before but I used iMovieHD to edit it. As you will see that I filmed most of it within the facility of my bedroom As  I said in my previous blog posts I parodied a couple of the most famous/popular videos on YouTube.

Thanks to the following - all your videos gave inspiration to this project
Chinese Backstreet Boys - That Way
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2rZxCrb7iU
Beached Whale
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdVHZwI8pcA
Numa Numa
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmtzQCSh6xk
LonelyGirl15 - First Blog / Dorkiness Prevails
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-goXKtd6cPo
The Angry German Kid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBVmfIUR1DA

I decided to make my own parodies of the listed videos because I didn't want to go through the whole process of gaining permission from the author and thought it would be funnier and even better to create my own version of them. I wanted to use some animations that Apple's Motion can produce but was not able to move my project on and off my MacBook constantly because I would have to use the University's iMac's to be able to use Motion (I really must invest in my own copy). However I did include an experimental clip I produced using Motion.

The programs used to create this project were iMovieHD, iStopMotion and Motion from Final Cut Studio 2.

The final video runs for almost 10 minutes and as YouTube's conditions state, videos must only run for a maximum of 10 minutes I trimmed my video down to 9:47. It does go for an extended amount of time but I believe that I made it entertaining enough to keep viewers watching until the end - the funny random bits continue through out. There may be some other popular and even more famous videos out there on YouTube that I didn't refer to. This was because I was only able and wanted to parody a few, plus like I said before I didn't want to use original footage.

Thanks to my good friend Tim Yap for helping me film an important scene in the video. I hope you guys enjoy it, please rate and comment and subscribe I think I'll be using YouTube a lot more now and will most definitely post up more videos

YouTube - a staged video blog

On Wednesday I film a video blog with my good friend Tim, where we pretend to watch and discuss about the famous videos on YouTube. The famous videos we pretended to watch were: The Beached Whale, Angry German Kid, LonelyGirl15's first video blog, the Chinese Backstreet Boys, Numa Numa - all of which I made parodies of and will be shown in the final cut. Hopefully it won't look too scripted, to me it does but I hope it will add to the humour.

Earlier I just recorded myself reading a script introducing and describing what YouTube is and how that video blog I filmed on Wednesday relates to what I am doing as a whole. Made a few tweaks and changes here and there so hopefully it will turn out to be good video gaining a lot of views and who knoes maybe even shooting me to stardum! as if!

Week 14 - more YouTube

Yesterday I made a parody of the 'angry German kid'. For those of you who don't know the 'angry German kid', it is just a famous YouTube video where a kid curses at his computer in German and chucking a huge tantrum while waiting for the game Unreal Tournament to load. He continues to curse as he is losing in the game. Instead of cursing in German I cursed in my native tongue, Vietnamese. I only took one take and it took me a few rehearsals before actually filming because I know I would create a huge mess like the real angry German kid himself.

In today's tutorial, Nathan again was absent so Michael took over. I briefed Michale with what I have done so far, telling him about the parodies I have made and how I want to analysis YouTube and how it effects the social lives of everyone exposed to it. I read deep into YouTube and what it is about today and wrote a script for my video. I am going to film it in the form of a video blog and hopefully make it seem unscripted.

more videos made for Project B

On Friday and tonight I filmed some more parodies that I am going to use for my Project B, the analysis of YouTube. I made my own version of the 'numa numa' video, it was and still is one of the most famous videos on YouTube and the internet itself. Its just some guy lip-syncing to the techno song 'numa numa'. I made a parody of the recent popular Australian video 'the beached whale', all I did was print out a picture of the beached whale and mimicked his kiwi accent. I was experiementing with the program motion earlier in the semester at uni (because I don't have it at home) so edited that footage... Just then I just made a parody of 'Lonelygirl15' who was an actress who was apparently paid by YouTube to post up fake scripted video blogs, I have to do more research about her and talk about how not everything on YouTube is real etc. What I was thinking of doing is I am going to talk about her and say how much I love her and my friend will enter the shot and say things like "dude shes not real. Shes totally made up..." So yeah just thought I'd blog what progress has been made... It is now 1:10am and I need to get some shut eye - oh yeah I almost forgot that the quiz is on next week - yikes! Have to start revising big time...

The Legend Behind The Massage Tour

The Purpose...

The purpose of this web page is to inform and document "My Massage Tour". This is my mission statement.

On January 16th 2007, a group of friends set out to visit their homeland, the country where their ancestry and blood had derived from. For many it was not their first time returning "home" but for some it was. On this web page Long Tran will fill you in on my experiences in Viet Nam and Hong Kong and ultimately tell you why it was referred to as... "the Massage tour". Maybe for those select few viewers out there who are interested in taking part of or going on their own "massage tour" this page will enable you to do so.

Enjoy - Long Tran

If you want to get to know me better simply go to my hi5 profile please leave a nice comment for me ^_^

The Legend Behind The Massage Tour

On a final note, I must mention why I called my recent holiday to Viet Nam and Hong Kong "The Massage Tour". My older brother had given it this code name because the guys who were on the trip were supposed to be pampered like a king in massage parlours. I was inspired by 'Rush Hour 2' to find "Heaven on Earth Massage Parlour" in Hong Kong. However not knowing the local language and area proved to hinder this ambition. LoL it's ridiculous I know but everyone dreams, I don't think such a place exists... One can only dream...
